Dentals
Healthy teeth and gums for a long and happy life for your four-legged friend.
Our dental services
The oral hygiene of animals is essential for their well-being. Although regular teeth cleaning by you is beneficial, it is not enough, as areas under the gums often remain unreached. As a result, four-legged friends can develop dental diseases such as periodontal disease and gingivitis caused by tartar. These diseases can lead to pain, inflammation, and tooth loss and cause serious organ damage. That is why we recommend professional teeth cleaning every 2-3 years.
Teeth cleaning
Similar to us humans, the oral hygiene of furry noses contributes to their general well-being. Regular teeth cleaning by you as an animal owner is important and helpful, but - as with us humans - it is not completely sufficient, as certain areas (e.g. under the gums) are not completely reached. Animals can therefore also develop dental diseases such as periodontal disease and gingivitis, which are caused by the deposition of tartar on the teeth and adjacent to the gums. Over time, these illnesses can lead to pain, inflammation, infection, tooth decay, and loss of teeth or bone. In the worst case, the bacteria can also enter the bloodstream and attack organs such as the heart, liver and kidneys. For most four-legged friends, we therefore routinely recommend professional teeth cleaning every 2-3 years.
Dental surgery
If necessary, we carry out tooth extractions and removal of tartar to maintain your pet's dental health and eliminate pain. Our digital dental X-ray device enables us to provide reliable diagnostics and targeted therapy.
How does the dental cleaning process work at filu?
The first step is to get into practice with your four-legged friend for a preliminary discussion. You can easily make an appointment online or by phone. In the practice, we carry out a preliminary examination of the teeth, make sure that your darling is fit for anesthesia and tell you the exact procedure of the treatment. We also take time to answer all of your questions. On the day of treatment, we first start with careful tooth cleaning to carefully remove tartar both above and below the gum line. In the second step, we gently polish your pet's teeth. Polishing removes irregularities in tooth enamel and prevents the formation of plaque and tartar in the future. (Without polishing, microabrasions remain on the teeth and thus promote the formation of new dental plaque). Your filu vet will then thoroughly examine your pet's teeth for deeper cavities, fractures and other causes that may cause toothache. X-rays can be performed if necessary to ensure that no dental problems are hidden in depth. If a tooth extraction is necessary, it can be performed directly during the same procedure. During the entire procedure, your four-legged friend is under anesthesia and is therefore not aware of the procedure - our team will of course carefully monitor your pet until he is fully awake again.
Why should you have filu do your pet's teeth cleaning?
filu is a newly established veterinary practice that is at the cutting edge of technology. In our separate dental surgery area, we not only have the best equipment, but filu's veterinarians also have special know-how. We always make sure that your four-legged friend is in a pleasant atmosphere and can wake up from anesthesia relaxed and optimally cared for. It is particularly important to us that you and your pet feel comfortable. That is why we discuss the treatment with you in detail in advance and also give you transparency about the costs. We will take time to answer all your questions. Our medical team has many years of clinical experience and specializes in dental treatments. In addition, we attach great importance to the continuous training of our team in order to offer your four-legged friend the best possible, up-to-date medical care.
I regularly brush my pet's teeth - does it still need a dental cleaning?
It's great if you're already brushing your pet's teeth regularly. If you have any questions about it, we'd be happy to show you again how best to brush your pet's teeth. This reduces the amount of tartar, plaque, and harmful bacteria in your pet's mouth but does not completely eliminate them. It's similar to us humans - even with regular tooth brushing and flossing, we should undergo dental cleanings regularly. Our experienced team can also clean hard-to-reach places and check and treat for cavities, fractures, and other dental problems.
My pet has persistent bad breath - will a dental treatment help?
Bad breath is a typical sign of a dental or oral cavity disease but can also have other causes. Your veterinarian will discuss with you other possible reasons if the bad breath does not improve despite dental treatment.
Will my pet be put under anesthesia during the treatment?
Yes - only under anesthesia can a thorough and, most importantly, pain-free cleaning of the teeth be carried out. We understand that anesthesia can be concerning. However, we assure you that this is a standard procedure and should not cause worry. Our anesthesia protocol is very gentle, and your beloved pet will be optimally monitored at every stage. It is far riskier for your pet to forego regular dental treatment. As with any anesthesia, we will thoroughly examine your pet before a dental treatment and perform a blood analysis to ensure that your furry friend is not at risk for anesthesia. If there are doubts about your pet's suitability for anesthesia, your veterinarian will inform you and discuss suitable alternatives with you.
How much does a dental treatment cost?
The costs may vary depending on the scope. In the preliminary discussion, we will show you the costs based on the initial examination and discuss them with you transparently.
How long does a dental treatment take?
Typically, the treatment lasts between 45 - 90 minutes, depending on whether additional measures, such as taking X-rays or performing tooth extractions, are necessary. After assessing the status of the teeth in the preliminary examination, we will inform you in advance at the practice about the approximate duration of the procedure and let you know as soon as your pet can go home with you. In the meantime, your beloved animal can wake up relaxed here and will be well cared for until you pick it up.
How often should I have a dental treatment done?
Generally, it is advisable to have dental treatment at least every 2-3 years. However, this can vary depending on the age, breed, and condition of the teeth. If you are unsure whether your pet's teeth need treatment, simply speak directly to one of our veterinarians - we are happy to advise you.
